Web hosting is the act or process of renting space and bandwidth through a company so that you can make your web site public online.
A domain name is a unique name to identify a website on the internet such as www.HostChart.com
Most web hosting companies offer domain name registration. You will have to inquire if it is available by using their free tool. If your domain name is available, you can proceed to register it. The price for domain name varies but it typically cost $10-20 depending on what other options you choose such as “privacy” option.
Storage Space is simply the amount of disk space (or hard drive space) that gets assigned to your hosting plan. A typical website may require 50 or 100 MegaBytes (MB) of storage space… but of course, that depends on how many images and pages there are.
Bandwidth is a measure of how much traffic is visiting your website. It includes visitors to your website, incoming and outgoing email messages, and FTP traffic. It’s typically measures in GigaBytes (GB), where 1 GB = 1,024 MB. Many people commonly refer to ” data transfer” as “bandwidth”. By definition, bandwidth is a measure of the “size of the pipe”, whereas data transfer is a measure of the “information going through the pipe”. So when we say that a hosting account is allowed 5 GB of bandwidth, what we really mean to say is that the account is allowed 5 GB of data transfer per month.
There are many factors in considering a web hosting company. A reputable company offers money back guarantee, has been in business for at least five (5) years and offer 24 hour support.
The answer will depend on the type of web site you want to have. Each file such as images and documents and page of your web site will use space on the servers’ hard disk. A web page that uses a lot of images or graphics will use more space than a web page that has only text. This is usually not a huge concern for most customers as the cost of hard disk space has come down tremendously over the years so the web hosting companies usually offer much more than what is needed and most will offer unlimited space.
